<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently compress a structured document described by XML or the like. <P>SOLUTION: A structured document analysis part 102 analyzes what kind of document components the structured document 131 to be a compression object is constituted of. An external document reference decision part 104 retrieves an external encoded document 132 including the document components similar to the document components constituting the structured document 131. An external document difference analysis part 105 calculates a difference between the retrieved external similar document components and the document components of the structured document 131.
