<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device of normally white mode which has superior viewing angle dependency of gamma characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a pair of first and second substrates which are arranged opposite each other and one of which has a transparent electrode, a liquid crystal layer which is disposed between the substrates and has liquid crystal molecules aligned substantially in parallel to substrate surfaces when applied with no voltage and also has a twist angle of ≤45° between the first and second substrates, and a plurality of pixels including a plurality of electrodes applying voltages to the liquid crystal layer, and performs display in normally white mode. The plurality of pixels each have a first subpixel and a second subpixel capable of applying different voltages to the liquid crystal layer and can display (n) gradations; when at least a gradation (k) (0<k≤n-1) is displayed, effective voltages V1(k1) and V2(k) that the first and second subpixels apply to the liquid crystal layer respectively satisfy a relational expression of ¾V1(k)-V2(k)¾>0 (volt). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
