PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable gas alarm which is highly convenient in use and configured to be compact and portable. SOLUTION: This portable gas alarm is provided with a box-shaped casing which can be gripped and held by the hand and a gas alarm main body in which functional members relating to a gas detecting operation are arranged at the upper half section inside the casing, and a battery chamber and a sensor mounting part are arranged side by side at the lower half section. The sensor mounting part in the gas alarm main body is configured so that one of a gas sensor and a remote cable can be exchanged with the other, and mounted so as to be freely detachable. The remote cable is provided with the sensor mounting part on which a gas sensor can be mounted so as to be freely detachable at one end and a mounted part which is mounted on the sensor mounting part of the gas alarm main body at the other end.
