PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the direction of a colliding object over a wide area by simple structure. SOLUTION: This self-traveling mobile vehicle includes a main body part provided with a drive source and capable of traveling on a floor surface, an exterior part covering the main body part, a support member arranged in the main body part for displaceably supporting the exterior part in the optional direction parallel to the floor surface with respect to the main body part, a plurality of contact sensors arranged in the main body part and capable of touching the exterior part when the exterior part is displaced with respect to the main body part, and a detection part for detecting the direction of an obstacle to the main body part based on an output from the contact sensor when at least one contact sensor is operated because of displacement caused by contact of the exterior part with the obstacle.
