PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an induction heating type fixing device capable of increasing safety by precisely detecting the abnormal temperature rise of a fixing member regardless of whether the fixing member is rotated, and an image forming apparatus equipped with the fixing device. SOLUTION: The induction heating type fixing device 6 is equipped with the rotatable fixing member 61 having an electromagnetic induction heating layer 613 and a magnetic flux generating coil unit 60 facing the fixing member 61 from the outside of the fixing member 61. The fixing device 6 is further equipped with an abnormal expansion detection section 70 which detects abnormal expansion of the fixing member 61, and the detection section 70 includes an expansion detection sensor S2 disposed facing the fixing member 61, and detects abnormal expansion and then the abnormal temperature rise of the fixing member 61 on the basis of the detection result of the sensor S2.
