PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a friction drive unit which can stably move by adopting a friction drive mechanism without using a ball screw. SOLUTION: The friction drive unit 1 has driving rollers 3a, 3b pivoted on two arm portions 20a, 20b of a U-shaped arm 2, and a guide rail 93 is sandwiched between a pair of driving rollers 3a, 3b from the leftward and rightward directions by a predetermined pressing force. The friction drive unit is provided with contrarotating rollers 4a, 4b on the other end of roller shafts 30a, 30b of the driving rollers 3a, 3b, and a pair of contrarotating rollers 4a, 4b is arranged in contact to transmit rotation. A fastening bolt 24 fastens two arm portions 20a, 20b to regulate the space between the arm portions 20a, 20b. When one driving roller 3a is rotated by a drive source 5 attached on the one arm portion 20a, the other roller 3b is rotated reversely by the counter-rotating rollers 4a, 4b.
