PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an addition polymer of an ester group-containing norbornene monomer having transparency, low dielectric constant and excellent thermal stability and strength, exhibiting excellent adhesiveness in the case of bonding to metals and other polymers without generating by-products and usable as an optical film, phase difference film, plastic substrate material, transparent polymer such as POF, insulating electronic material such as PCB and insulation substance, and provide a method for the production of the addition polymer. SOLUTION: The norbornene-ester addition polymer has a number-average molecular weight (Mn) of≥20,000 and contains a norbornene-ester monomer containing≥50 mol% exo-form norbornene-ester monomer as a repeating unit.
