1,079,773. Welding by fusion. CHICAGO BRIDGE & IRON CO. May 10, 1965 [June 2, 1964], No. 19570/65. Heading B3R. Thick members are welded by interposing strips between the members and welding the edges of the strips to the edges of the members, the finished welds in effect forming two continuous multi-pass welds. The members may be solid or laminated and may be the curved walls of vessels. The edge surfaces to be joined may be parallel or inclined. The first strip may be located at the bottom or the centre of the joint. Where one of the members is laminated the lowest lamination may project beyond the others, form a support for the strips and be welded directly to the other member. |
