The device has a cutting roller (2) and an impression roller (3) forming a roller gap for inserting a flat sheet (B) for cutting a flat material layout (Z). A resting grid (R) and an internal opening (I) lying in between the layout are formed as a residue material. The rollers are designed as suction rollers with cladding surfaces (6, 7) having suction air openings (8, 9). Suction air loading of the rollers takes place such that the rollers and the material are transportable directly. The roller (2) is designed as an embossing roller for producing embossments and pre-creasing in the layout. An independent claim is also included for a method for cutting a flat material lay-out on a flat sheet.
