Improvements in or relating to the finishing of cellulosic textile materials

In the creaseproofing of cellulosic textile materials with urea-, melamine- and cyclic ethyleneurea - formaldehyde resins the hardening of the resins and the materials is effected by the use as hardening agents of salts of aliphatic or aromatic amines, imidazoles, pyrroles, pyridines, dicyandiamide or triazines and semi-amides of ethylene - a ,b - dicarboxylic acids. The nitrogen atom of the semi-amide may be substituted by, for example, a b hydroxyethyl group. Specified hardening agents are the melamine salts of maleamic acid, N-b -hydroxyethyl-maleamic acid, maleic acid melamide, ethylene - 1:2 - di - maleamic acid, N - cyclohexyl maleamic acid and the semi-amide formed from maleic acid and morpholine. 10-20% by weight of hardening agent based on the resin precondensate may be used.ALSO:Cellulosic textile materials, e.g. cotton and viscose rayon fabrics, yarns and fibres, are crease-proofed by treatment with urea-, melamine- and cyclic ethylene ureaformaldehyde resins, these being used as hardening agent for the resin a salt of an aliphatic or aromatic amine, imidazole, pyrrole, pyridine, dicyandiamide or triazine and a semi-amide of an ethylene-a ,b -dicarboxylic acid. The nitrogenation of the semi-amide may be substituted by, for example, a b hydroxyethyl group. Specified hardening agents are the melamine salts of maleamic acid, N-b -hydroxyethyl-maleamic acid, maleic acid melamide, ethylene-1 : 2-di-maleamic acid, n-cyclohexyl maleamic acid and the semi-amide formed from maleic acid and morpholine. The quantity of hardening agent used may be 10-20% by weight based on the resin precondensate. In Example 3a viscose rayon steple fibre fabric is impregnated with a composition comprising a dimethylol compound of ethylene urea, the dimethylol compound of diethylene triurea and maleic acid melamide-melamine salt, dried, embossed and heated for 3 minutes at 160 DEG C.
