The device (10) has a suction device (18) to draw and retain a ceramic/porcelain object (14) to be burnished in its handling position. Base (12) of the object is adjusted downwards using the suction device. A burnishing arrangement (26) is provided under the object for burnishing its base and is provided for a rotation around a rotation axis (28) during the burnishing process. The rotation axis is oriented vertical to a plane that is determined from the base. The arrangement comprises a burnishing belt (34) that is gradually movable in its longitudinal direction.
