3,4,31,41-Bis-dehydro-b -carotene is isolated as a by-product of the reaction of p-toluenesulphonic acid with a lipid extract of alfalfa (which contains lutein, zeaxanthin and b -carotene), followed by saponification and chromatographic separation.ALSO:Anhydrolutein is obtained by the action of p-toluenesulphonic acid on a lipid extract from alfalfa (which contains lutein, zeaxanthin and b -carotene), followed by saponification and chromatographic separation.ALSO:An animal fedstuff contains, as a source of provitamin A2, anhydrolutein or other carotenoid containing the 3, 4-dehydro-b -ionone ring. The provitamin A2 is obtained, in pure or concentrated form, by action of a strong acid dehydrating agent or lutein, zeaxanthin, alfalfa lipids, alfalfa meal or crude soybean oil. |
