An invention is disclosed for tracking the position and orientation of a target within a living or inanimate object without the need for external references. It is a wireless tracking system measuring and reporting three dimensional position and orientation about three orthogonal axes, using accelerometers and gyroscopes. Additional pressure or temperature sensors or radiation dosimeters may be incorporated. Embodiments of the present invention may be applied to tumour tracking in radiation oncology and/or to tracing location and orientation histories of objects. The device can be powered by an internal battery or an inductively coupled power source and can also include radiation shielding. |
