A flat-bed knitting machine produces rib, purl or plan knitting and has double ended needles 9 which are actuated by jacks 6 in one bed 1 only the cams having two tracks for operating the jacks in a forward or rearward position to knit on either end a or b of the needle and a supplementary bed 2 being provided to steady the needles, which supplementary bed is pivotable out of position when only plain fabric is being produced on the ends b of the needles. The jacks 6 with butts 7 engage the hooks a of needles 9 by means of a leaf spring 27 with a hooked end and a concave surface on the end of the jack. The hooked end of the leaf spring can be moved out of engagement with the needle hook as a stitch is cast of the hook a between the end of the needle and the end of the jack. |
