A radio-frequency identification ("RFID") transponder and a method of storing data in a RFID transponder are provided for use in an RFID system. The transponder comprises a temporary memory array for storing data and a first power supply for powering the temporary memory array. The transponder is configured such that, when power ceases to be provided to the temporary memory array by the first power supply, the data in the temporary memory array is validly maintained therein for a predetermined time period. An RFID system is also provided, including such a transponder and a transponder interrogator for providing an interrogation field and reading data from the transponder.
