947,008. Lathe details. P. F. DE VALLIERE. Feb. 26, 1962 [March 7, 1961], No. 7481/62. Heading B3T. A machine tool slide rest 2 has a lead screw engaging split nuts 3a, 3b, each half of which is rigid with a rod 4 extending through the opposite half, the rods being mounted in rest 2 by eccentric bushes 5, 6. The lower part of each half nut has a slot 8 in which a link 9 is mounted on the eccentric end 10 of a pin 11, and eccentrics 15 rigid with a hollow shaft 16, close and open nuts 3a, 3b, when shaft 16 is rotated. Shaft 16 has a collar 18 keyed thereto, and a shaft 17 passing through shaft 16 has a collar 19 keyed thereto. Between the collars a ring 20 is rotatably mounted, each collar 18, 19 has a notch 22 into which a corresponding branch 23 of a lock 24 slidable on a pin 25, is movable. A notched key 26 is slidably carried by ring 20 which is straddled by branches 23. In operation for automatic feed, collar 19, and therefore shaft 17 is clamped by a branch 23 of lock 24, and key 26 is thrust into notch 22 in collar 18, so that as ring 20 is rotated, shaft 16 is also rotated, and nut 3a, 3b is closed on to lead screw 1. To provide manual feed, lock 24 is moved to engage a branch 23, with notch 22 in collar 18, to lock nut 3a, 3b open, and collar 19 is engaged with ring 20 by key 26. The manual feed is then produced by rotating ring 20 and shaft 17. Eccentrics 15 may be replaced by cams 15a, Fig. 3, which engage square bores 14a in links 9. |
