In a straining device for a multi-layer electric conductor, e.g. a steel reinforced aluminium core, of the type in which preformed helical wires 2a pass around a thimble 3, and grip the cable 2, to prevent relative movement between the outer and inner conductor layers, the cable passes downwards from the thimble into a channel 9 where it is clamped in recesses 10 by stirrup packing pieces 12 and stirrup screws 11. In a further embodiment (Fig. 4), a clamping piece is attached to the end of the cable, the outside of the cable is stripped back and the wires are spread round a core 27 over which an internal piece is held by screwed cap 29. In a still further embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown), the core of the cable continues to the middle of the thimble where a clamping arrangement similar to that of Fig. 4 is mounted. |
