摘要 A method for inspecting a surface of an object, particularly a wire-wrapped sand screen for use in the oil and gas industry. Sensors 31, 32, 33 form an array 300 and comprise a laser that sends out beam 34 to illuminate a spot on the surface 35 to be examined. The reflected light signal is captured by a photo-detector in the array 300. The sensors 31, 32, 33 may move independently or collectively. The light signals are combined to form a representation, such as a digital image, of geometrical features of the surface and the representation is processed along with the location of the array relative to the surface to obtain geometric quantities such as the mean value of the size of the gaps in the screen. A motion control unit 107 controls the motion of the array 300, to move the array along rail 36 which is movable along rail 37. Thus the array 300 can move to scan the whole surface 35.
