<p>Harvested vegetables, etc are processed by conveying them in single file with a particular orientation so each vegetable can be examined and subsequently treated in accordance with the results of that examination. The treatment includes cutting off and/or extracting part of the vegetable using a tool with several blades. An Independent claim is included for equipment for treating vegetables, etc. as above featuring devices for conveying and orienting the vegetables, a cutting tool controlled by a device for examining the vegetables. Preferred Features: The examination is optical, mechanical or electronic and compares the colour and/or shape of the vegetable against stored values. Parts of the vegetable are cut out in order to conserve the whole vegetable or the cut off parts are re-used to make by-products. The processed material may be apples, artichoke, asparagus, beetroot, broccoli, carrots, cabbage, celery, corn salad, cucumber, grapefruit, lettuce, melons, mushrooms, nectarines, oranges, peaches, pears, potatoes, salad greens, turnips and tomatoes.</p> |
