A support fixture for a medical diagnostic or therapeutic instrument has a curved guide rail (1) for a moving slide (2) bearing the instrument. During movement of the slide in one direction (A) the guide rail reinforces the effect of gravity, and during movement in the other direction (B) detracts from the effect of gravity aided by a helical spring in tension.
