A remote monitoring system and a method for controlling thereof are provided to check whether a home code is properly set or not after setting the home code by receiving the feedback. In a remote monitoring system composed of an electric appliance and a monitoring module, a method for controlling a remote monitoring system comprises the steps: transferring a setting command of a home code of a washing machine and a dryer(S101); setting the home code of the product according to the setting command of the transferred home code, and re-transferring the setting completion command to the monitoring module(S105); and displaying the setting state to the monitoring module according to the result(S104).
