The invention relates to a method and a tool for deforming at least one section (29) on an imprecisely positioned body (27) by means of a tool (1), by such an amount that the section (28) to be formed lies in a more precisely defined position in relation to said body. Said tool comprises at least one retaining device (15) and at least one forming die (10) that can be displaced in the direction of the retaining device (15). The section (28) to be formed is located between the retaining device (15) and the forming die (10). To improve the quality of the formed body, the forming displacement of the forming die (10) is controlled in accordance with the position of the latter (10) without a fixed counter retaining element, in such a way that the forming die is halted when it reaches a defined end position. The inventive tool is characterised in that a drive for the forming die is coupled to a control unit, which controls the forming displacement of the forming die (10) in accordance with the position of the latter without a fixed counter retaining element, in such a way that the forming die is halted in a defined end position.
