In a scaffolding clamp comprising two substantially U-shaped clamping elements 10 connected together at their base 13 as in Specifications 474,080 and 452,286, the free end portions 11a and 12a of the two arms 11, 12 are urged towards each other by a clamping bolt 14 of bent . configuration comprising two straight end portions 14a, 14b joined by an angle or curved portion 14c, the free end portions also having bolt receiving openings which allow movement in the longitudinal direction of the clamping arms. The free end portions 11a, 12a of the two arms have their outer faces 11b, 12b relatively inclined so that when the two arms of each clamping element are tightened into engagement with the scaffold tube 19, the outer faces are normal to the axis of the adjacent end portion of the bolt. The clamping bolt has a round cross-section and carries a bolt head 15 at one end, and a nut 17 and washer 18 on the threaded end 16. One of the two arms of each clamping element is made shorter than the other arm. As the nut 17 is tightened the clamping element and the bolt engage the scaffold tube 19 at each of positions C, D, E, G, H and preferably at no other position. The slot-like opening for the bolt in the arm 12 is of closed configuration whereas the opening in the arm 11 is open at its outer end so permitting the bolt to be quickly displaced outwardly. |
