[Also in Divisions B4 and F2] Overlapping members 3 and 4 are fastened together by threading a one-piece collar 2 on to the threaded end of a pin 1 and crimping a portion of the collar surrounding a smooth bore portion 13 of the collar, which overlies but is out of engagement with the threads, into the threads so as to effect elongation of the collar and thus impart a residual tension on the pin. The threads may be interrupted by grooves 10 or by spaced portions removed along their periphery. In other embodiments, the collar is crimped into a neck or annular grooves adjacent the threads on the pin. |
