Air decomposition involves removing a liquid (21) from a liquidation area of a head condenser (18), where the liquid is partially injected into an individual column (15). The individual column and/or the head condenser extract a gaseous nitrogen product. A portion of an insertion air (1) is repressed in a repressor (9) that is designed as a cold compressor. A part of mechanical energy is obtained during relaxation of a remaining gas flow and is utilized for driving the repressor. An independent claim is also included for a device for the cryogenic decomposition of air.
