PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous casting method which does not require a large-scale reduction facility and still be able to perform smooth extraction of a dummy bar, while applying reduction on an unsolidified cast piece by protruding a bottom roll above the pass line on the bottom side of the cast piece. SOLUTION: By this continuous casting method, the dummy bar is passed through while the bottom reduction roll is protruded prior to the pass of the dummy bar through a pair of reduction rolls so that a large-scale reduction facility is not necessary, which is required to protrude the bottom roll after the dummy bar and the first cast piece pass through the position of the pair of reduction rolls. Moreover, the dummy bar can pass through without interference with the guide rolls by moving up topside guide rolls positioned to the machine end side (downstream side) in relation to the pair of reduction rolls. Thus, center segregation in the cast piece can be relaxed using the comparatively simple reduction facility on the continuous casting machine. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
