PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce detection error resulting from a backlash between a main driving gear and a driven gear while restraining operation loads. SOLUTION: Initial setting of a rotary angle detector 11 is performed through stages (S1-2 to S1-5) to obtain normal direction errors (rotary angleα1,β1), stages (S1-6 to S1-9) to obtain reverse direction errors (rotary angleα2,β2), stages (S1-11) to obtain the averages (rotary angleαave,βave) of the normal direction errors and the reverse direction errors (S1-11), a stage to obtain the difference (offset valueαofs,βofs) between theoretical rotary angleα0,β0 of the first and second driven gears 15, 16 not including errors when the rotary angle of the main driving gear 14 is 0°and the average, and a stage to store the offset valuesαofs,βofs as correction data to be added to the actually detected rotary anglesα,βof the first and second driven gears 15, 16 when obtaining the rotary angleθof a detection object.
