PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easy-to-use portable telephone set for confirming the identity of electronic mail, and for enabling only the identified person to read the electronic mail transmitted to him or herself. SOLUTION: This portable telephone set is provided with a means for storing received encrypted mail; a means for storing a predetermined password; a means for storing a decoding table for decoding the encrypted mail; a means for, when the input password is matched with the stored password, decoding the encrypted mail by referring to the decoding table; a decoded mail temporary storage means for temporarily storing the decoded mail; a display control means for controlling a display means to display the decoded mail; and a decoded mail deleting means for deleting the decoded mail stored in the decoded mail temporary storage means according to the reception of an instruction input to end the display of the decoded mail.
