PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air spring with a diaphragm surely held on a housing and the housing having reduced mass and cost, and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The housing 10 has a grooved portion 12a formed in the outer peripheral face of a shell part 12 and an annular extension portion 12b formed at the opening end of the shell part to extend from the outer peripheral face of the shell part to the radial outside. An annular member 41 is used for joining the diaphragm to the outer peripheral face of the shell part including the grooved portion so that the inner peripheral face of the diaphragm 30 has close contact therewith. The annular extension portion can be formed by cutting a sectionally hut-shaped press molding having a flange part at the opening end of the shell part in a continuous and integral manner, at its portion ranging from the outer peripheral face of the shell part to the flange part.
