A load floor for a vehicle is characterized by selectively variable friction characteristics. A high coefficient of friction is selectable to resist movement of cargo on the load floor during vehicle movement, and a low coefficient of friction is selectable to facilitate the movement of cargo on the load floor during loading or unloading.
