The method involves presetting a reference value for a cutting force of a workpiece in a rough finish processing phase of the workpiece. A complete finish processing phase is started when the workpiece measurement reaches a value that is larger than a preset final dimension of a finished product (3) and about a predefined oversize. A diminishing function is followed by the preset value for the cutting force based on the workpiece removal in the complete finish processing phase such that the feed speed is decreased diminishingly during the complete finish processing phase.
