PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink sheet for a thermal transfer recording material containing an azo dyestuff which has excellent spectral characteristics with a sharp absorption, exhibits high fastness and color reproducibility, has less blotting of an image during wet heating, hardly generates re-transferring, and has excellent image stability.

SOLUTION: The ink sheet for the thermal transfer recording material comprises the azo dyestuff expressed by the formula, in particular, an azo dyestuff with a pyrazole ring. In the formula, R1, R2, R3and R4are each a hydrogen atom or a substituent, Het is a hetero-ring group, which may have a substituent or may form a condensed ring.
