<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photovoltaic cell having excellent carrier collection properties. <P>SOLUTION: The photovoltaic cell 1 comprises: a semiconductor substrate 2 in the shape of a slice; a first doping region 12 and second doping region 15 formed on one major surface of the substrate 2, wherein the first doping region 12 is deeper in depth than the second doping region 15, and has a higher surface dopant concentration than the region 15; and a metal contact pattern 20 that is substantially in alignment with the first doping region 12. The surface dopant concentration of the second doping region 15 increases with distance, as it goes from inside the second doping region 15 towards the first doping region 12, and the increasing gradient in the surface concentration of dopant facilitates carrier transport toward the metal contact pattern 20. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
