PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a clear fluorescent image by effectively applying fluorochrome/probe for confirming presence/absence of lesion in a short period of time into a living body and optically detecting it. SOLUTION: This endoscope system 1 is provided with a medical agent delivery means 20 delivering fluorescent medical agent linked with a specific substance inside an imaging object or accumulated in the imaging object inside toward the imaging object, a delivery control means 25 controlling the medical agent delivery means 20, a light source section 4 emitting an exciting light for exciting the fluorescent medical agent and an illumination light having different spectroscopic characteristics from those of the exiting light, an optical system 7 dispersing the exiting light and the illumination light toward the imaging object, and an image pick-up means 14 provided in a portion 2 to be inserted in the body cavity and capable of imaging the exiting light radiated from the imaging object by the exiting light and, a light radiated from the imaging object by the illumination light and having a different wavelength band therefrom. This endoscope system 1 controls the medical agent delivery means 20 to illuminate the illumination light to the imaging object before the delivery control means 24 delivers the fluorescent medical agent to the imaging object.
