The device has a gear with two gear input shafts that are assigned to respective clutch arrangements (12, 14). Actuation devices (50, 70, 72) actuate the clutch arrangements alternatively in an engaging direction and a disengaging direction. A friction material or a friction lining material which is provided for dry running operation is formed in pairs by friction surfaces that are brought into mutual friction contact. The clutch arrangements are implemented as dry running multi-disk-clutch arrangements. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a motor vehicle-drive train.
