A starting device for radio controlled scale model (26) with a glow plug (25) that is selectively activated and deactivated by the engine starting mechanism (21-23) including at least a battery (3) to energise the glow plug (25); an electrical switch (2) encased in a housing (1) to selectively apply energy to the plug (25); an electrical lead (9) between one pole of the battery to an electrical connector (4) that is securable to the engine or glow plug body for an electrical ground connection; another electrical lead (8) between the second pole of the battery (3) to one pole of the electrical switch (2); another electrical lead (7) between the second pole of the electrical switch (2) and the centre pole of the glow plug (5). The electrical switch (2) encased in a switch housing (1), is mounted on the model (26) utilising a modular system of mounting (31, 33) and spacer blocks (28) so that the electrical switch (2), which is mechanically connected to a trigger or lever (41) or switch (2), can be selectively activated and deactivated by the engine starting mechanism (21-23), applying electrical energy to the glow plug (25) during engine starting.
