A system power control apparatus and a method thereof are provided to recognize rated voltage information of a portable computer and supply voltage corresponding to the information by installing a connection unit, capable of supplying communication and power, in a battery pack, thereby improving compatibility of the battery pack. A system power control apparatus comprises the followings: a portable terminal having a connection unit(100) for communication and power supply; and a battery pack(114) including a battery(104) which is connected to the connection unit(100) and supplies voltage corresponding to rated voltage information of the portable terminal. The connection unit is a USB(Universal Serial Bus) or a power cable configured with the USB.
