PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a program recording and reproduction apparatus without requiring troublesome operations of manually changing the erasure inhibition setting of recorded program as well as without performing the program erasure contrary to a user's intention, when the shortage of program recording region causes automatic erasure of programs selected out of the recorded programs on a predetermined reference. SOLUTION: The program recording and reproduction apparatus comprises: a recording reservation setting means which can be set up by days, hours or time designation after record erasure inhibition period, or by the number of times of recording of these future programs in series on schedule every day or every week; an erasure inhibition period control means for changing the erasure inhibition or permission setting of the recorded program into the erasure permission setting when the erasure inhibition period passes; an empty region management means for managing the empty region of the record medium; a means for selecting a program to be erased out of the recorded programs with erasure permission in consideration of an empty region of the recording medium and a region required for reservation recording; and a record control means for erasing the program to be erased so as to secure an empty region in the case of shortage of empty regions.
