PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic mode change system for a portable communication apparatus which can prevent an operation mode of the portable communication apparatus from being changed to an irregular operation mode changing a request from a malicious person by determining that a mode change control signal from mode change control signal notification equipment is a valid operation mode changing request. SOLUTION: When a mode change control signal is received from the mode change control signal notification equipment 20 in an operation mode changeable area 21, the portable communication apparatus 10 requests the authentication of the mode change control signal notification equipment 20 to automatic mode change management equipment 50 through a base station 30 and exchange equipment 40. Since the portable communication apparatus 10 determines whether the operation mode change is required or not on the basis of an authentication result from the automatic mode change management equipment 50, an operation mode change based on an operation mode changing request from the malicious mode change control signal notification equipment 20 can be prevented.
