PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic photographic apparatus equipped with an LED lighting device that is suitable for product inspection, etc. SOLUTION: The automatic photographic apparatus comprises a CCD camera unit 14; three-dimensional robot arms 15-21; lighting device 12; moving means 13 for changing the distance between the camera and the lighting device; and control means which stores the position, angle, illumination parameters, in correspondence with a plurality of photographic points of a photographic subject, and allows the photographic points of the photographic subject to be photographed, in order, based on the stored data. The lighting device incorporates a plurality of lighting devices which use LEDs and have different lighting directions, and thus the lighting direction and color can be selected optimally. The control means might have a determining means for determining whether the photographed image is an image of a target region to be inspected, and a defect-detecting means for detecting defects from the photographed image. With this automatic photographic apparatus, defects, characters of a label, etc. at checked points in an arbitrary surface state at an arbitrary position can be photographed under the best lighting conditions, and the accuracy of product inspection is improved.
