摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which achieves black insertion driving of an OCB liquid crystal without using a large-sized switching element even in the case of screen enlargement and high definition, and a driving method thereof. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device including a display part 10A comprising a plurality of liquid crystal pixels PX arranged like a matrix includes; a first substrate 12 on which a plurality of pixel electrodes PE are arranged approximately like a matrix so that they correspond to the plurality of liquid crystal pixels PX respectively; a second substrate 14 on which a common electrode CE is arranged so as to face the plurality of pixel electrodes PE; and a liquid crystal layer LQ held between the first and second substrates 12 and 14. The first substrate 12 includes a plurality of first pixel switching elements SW1 which are arranged near the plurality of pixel electrodes PE and are thin film transistors for applying an image signal Vs to corresponding pixel electrodes, and a plurality of second pixel switching elements SW2 which are arranged near the plurality of pixel electrodes PE and are diodes for applying a first non-image signal to corresponding pixel electrodes.
