PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a latching device and windows capable of preventing occurrence of bruise to maintain aesthetic appearance, ensuring durability and stability of operation, and preventing backlash of a plane member. SOLUTION: Since a latch bolt 42 moved to an unlocked position is engaged with an engaging part 453 of a trigger 45 to regulate its moving to a locked position and is held at the unlocked position, a tip of the latch bolt 42 does not rub a vertical frame 13 and a frame fringe 2 when pushing a lower part sash 30 into a window frame to prevent occurrence of bruise on indoor faces of them and maintain aesthetic appearance of a double hung window. When the lower part sash 30 is pushed into a predetermined position of the window frame, an abutting part 452 of the trigger 45 is abutted on the vertical frame 13 to disengage the engaging part 453, and the latch bolt 42 protrudes to the locked position by energizing force of a coil spring 44 so that the vertical frame 13 can be automatically locked by the latch bolt 42 without requiring manual operation.
