<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adequately transmit optical signals different in transmission system such as modulation system and bit rate in a wavelength multiplex system. <P>SOLUTION: The repeater for transmitting optical signals in the wavelength division multiplex comprises a wave dividing means for deriving individual channels from the optical signals including a plurality of channels, a means for adjusting at least the optical power of the individual channel according to a control signal, a wave combining means for wavelength-multiplexing the plurality of channels to output wavelength multiplex signals, and a monitoring means for discriminating the modulation system and the bit rate of the optical signals every channel to generate the control signal. Monitoring the modulation system and the bit rate and providing a feedback mechanism for the system control enable the repeater to adequately adjust the characteristics of each channel, even if channels of various transmission systems are mixed in the same transmission line. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
