PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical scanner suitable for a fine printing with a compact structure in which the curvature of image and distortion in a main scanning direction and the curvature of image and the variation in magnitude in a subscanning direction or the like are excellently corrected, and to obtain an image forming apparatus using the optical scanner. SOLUTION: The optical scanner has: a light source means; a deflection means which deflects and scans a luminous flux emitted from the light source means; an incident optical means which allows the luminous flux emitted from the light source means to be made incident onto the deflection face of the deflection means; an imaging optical means which focuses the luminous flux deflected and scanned on the deflection face of the deflection means onto a face to be scanned, wherein the relation k/W≤0.6 is satisfied, where the fθcoefficient of the imaging optical means is denoted by k and an effective scanning width is denoted by W, the imaging optical means is composed of a first lens arranged on the side of the deflection means and a second lens arranged on the side of the face to be scanned, and the incident faces and the emitting faces of the first lens and the second lens are appropriately decided.
