PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing crystalline atorvastatin hemi-calcium (form VII) characterized by a powdery X-ray diffraction pattern having broad peaks in the ranges of 18.5-21.8 and 21.8-25.0±0.2°2θ. SOLUTION: The method comprises combining crystalline atorvastatin hemi-calcium characterized by a powdery X-ray diffraction having peaks at about 5.5 and 8.3±0.2°2θ, and a broad peak of about 18-23°2θ, with ethanol to obtain a suspension liquid, and spray-drying the suspension liquid in order to obtain crystalline atorvastatin hemi-calcium characterized by having a powdery X-ray diffraction pattern having broad peaks in ranges of 18.5-21.8 and 21.8-25.0±0.2°2θ.
