PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a carrier smoothly stop at a stop position while preventing deterioration in moving speed of the carrier due to contact of a printing head with a wiper member in a printer in which the carrier holding the printing head is moved beyond the wiper member during maintenance. SOLUTION: It is judged whether or not the carrier reaches a wiping section (S11). When judged that the carrier reaches the wiping section, it is further judged whether or not a difference between a target position and a current position is set (S12). When the difference is not set (NO at S12), a difference between the target position and the current position is set as an initial delay amount (S13). When the difference is set (YES at S12), a difference (a current delay amount) between the target position and the current position in the corresponding cycle is calculated (S14). It is judged whether or not a difference (an actual delay amount) between the current delay amount and the initial delay amount exceeds a change amount for two cycles of the target position (S15).
