A method for reproducing information about a moving picture as a thumb nail and a terminal using the same are provided to select a thumb nail image and output the thumb nail image while expanding the thumb nail image, thereby differentiating the selected thumb nail image with other thumb nail images. Key frames are extracted from moving picture data by a predetermined interval(S11,S12). The extracted key frame is decoded in real time(S13). The decoded key frame is generated as a thumb nail image so that the thumb nail is reproduced(S14). The key frames are intra frame pictures for independently restoring an image or I//P/B pictures for predicting and restoring the image. The I frames generated as thumb nail images are output, or the I/P/B pictures are output during a predetermined time interval, which is generated as a thumb nail image.
