PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent wrong azimuth detection even when external equipment generating a magnetic field such as a speaker is mounted on/dismounted from portable electronic equipment which displays an azimuth and its control method. SOLUTION: This portable electronic equipment 100 is equipped with: a display part 107 for displaying information, a geomagnetic sensor 108 for detecting geomagnetism; and a control part 150 for calculating an azimuth, based on the geomagnetism detected by the geomagnetic sensor 108 and displaying the calculated azimuth information on a display part. The equipment 100 also has characteristics wherein, when the external equipment generating a magnetic field connected to the portable electronic equipment 100 is separated from the portable electronic equipment 100, the control part 150 informs a user of an effect that calibration of offset to azimuth calculation by the geomagnetic sensor 108 is to be performed, or performs calibration control for performing the calibration by itself.
