Compositions comprise (1) certain monoolefin polymers and (2) certain aromatic sulphonic acids and salts thereof which are free from carboxylic acid groups, the metal of the salts belonging to Groups I to III of the Periodic Table. Specified classes of polymer (1) are polypropylene, polyethylene, block or random copolymers of propylene and ethylene or α-olefin other than propylene, and mixtures thereof, and mixtures with rubbery materials such as polyisobutylene, polybutadiene, styrenebutadiene rubber, ethylene-propylene rubber, and ethylene-propylene terpolymer. More than one of the sulphonic acids or sulphonates may be used. Conventional additives may also be present in the compositions and in the examples, dilaurylthiodipropionate, and 1,1,3-tri-(2-methyl - 4 - hydroxy - 5 - t - butylphenyl) - butane are employed. In the examples, the sulphonic acids used are benzene sulphonic acid, and 2,5- dichlorobenzenesulphonic acid, while the Ca, Mg, Al and Na salts of both of these acids and of x-naphthalenesulphonic acid, and m-xylene-4- sulphonic acid, are also used. |
