A method for preparing an optically active trans-alcohol and an ester thereof is provided to obtain the desired products, which has a various application range as an chiral medicine intermediate, through a simple process with high yield and optical purity. A method for preparing an optically active trans-alcohol represented by the formula(2) or (3) or an ester thereof is characterized in that a racemic trans alcohol compound represented by the formula(1) is stereo-selectively esterified in a solvent or a non-solvent using hydrolase such as lipase, protease and esterase or a strain including the same. In the formulae, n is 1 to 4, X is N, CN, F, Cl, Br, or I, R is selected from the group consisting of substituted or unsubstituted C1-8 alkyl or alkenyl, benzyl, C3-6 cycloalkyl, substituted or unsubstituted aryl alkyl, and substituted or unsubstituted hetero aryl alkyl.
